Adventureland

Adventureland covers what happens after the "teen movie" time period in one's life...the quarterlife crisis (popular topic on the blogosphere).  Since I'm in this sort of post-college crisis myself, Adventureland was relatable.  The characters were really sitcomesque, though.  Am I weird for thinking both Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart are cute?

The Perfect Score

lol @ ScarJo being in The Perfect Score.  She had cool hair, though.  I guess this movie isn't as bad as you'd think.  The plot revolves around a group of teens who conspire to steal the answers to the SAT.   A lot of the rhetoric about how standardized testing is bad really rings true, but the feel good Hollywood ending was kinda whack.    I also think it was kind of refreshing to see the Asian guy not play a model minority role.

Fish Tank

Hooray for women directors.   The overall mood of Fish Tank is TENSE.  Like, really tense.  For me anyway. I kept waiting for crazy shit to happen.  It was kind of...hard for me to watch, especially alone without anyone to share the emotions with.

It was really interesting that this film wasn't in widescreen...a lot of people on IMDB weren't feelin' it, but I didn't mind.

Fish Tank is good. Like, really good. It follows troubled teen Mia in a slum somewhere in the UK.  She likes to dance.  etc etc.  It was one of the few films I've seen lately that made me actually want to see what people were saying about it, so I went to see what the chatter was like on the IMDB board (even though the boards on IMDB are populated by trolls and morons).  There were some people comparing it to An Education, and I totally agree.  Fish Tank is a good An Education.

Election

I should probably stop watching coming of age movies like Election, they get on my nerves.  What is more annoying than teenagers?  I hate the apathetic teen character like the sister in this movie, and I hate the overachiever character like Reese Witherspoon's Tracy Flick.  Of course, the Flick character is a gross exaggeration meant to appeal to all of us who hate people like that.  The Matthew Broderick teacher character is really endearing, as is the tall football player guy.  You see, I've already forgotten all these peoples' names.  To be fair, the film is a poignant coming of age story. I mean, I guess if the teenager characters are really annoying, the film is successful because it's true to life, yeah?
